About Me
I have been providing drum lessons for in excess of 30 years teaching privately, as a peripatetic tutor in schools and at my current location in a purpose built drum studio. I teach all levels from complete beginners to professional drummers and have over 35 years playing experience 20 of those years as a professional drummer travelling all over the world working on cruise ships, summer seasons, theatres, tours and local radio.
Moving to London I worked many of the West End club residencies and for the Mecca Organization in one of their many resident bands whilst gaining session work for various music, TV, radio and recording companies.
Forming my own band I worked for many years providing musical backing for touring artistes and on a variety of major cruise lines and summer seasons. Always striving to become a better player I looked for the best teachers and was fortunate to study with amongst others Bob Armstrong and Kenny Clare.
I have found that being versatile and conversant with many styles has been a huge advantage over the years. Being able to read music has opened many doors for me. It’s help improve and accelerate my learning, which enabled me to gain work as a session player, back artistes and write out drum parts etc.
Being a singing drummer I encourage pupils to do the same but realize it’s not for everyone! – singing rhythms and phrases can really help your learning.
My aim is to produce musical drummers through fun but focused lessons. I teach simple to advanced concepts ensuring pupils get a solid foundation in technique, theory, co-ordination, rudiments, reading and writing music together with essential counting and listening skills. During lessons I place high priority on your aims and goals as a drummer and with patience and practice you can achieve them!
I am currently working with ‘Steely Don’ https://steelydon.co.uk a Steely Dan/Donald Fagen tribute band.
I am fully CRB (DBS) checked.
